What is Seakeeper Ride?
Seakeeper Ride is a Vessel Attitude Control System developed for powerboats by Seakeeper, the company best known for gyro stabilizers. The manufacturer says it draws on aerospace technology to control the boat's pitch, roll and heel in turns. Once switched on, Ride runs automatically for the whole passage, so the skipper no longer has to keep adjusting trim. Full product details are on the manufacturer's site: ride.seakeeper.com.
What does it do?
- Less roll and pitch underway in a head or beam sea, according to the manufacturer.
- Automatic levelling when weight on board is uneven or shifts (guests, fuel, tender).
- Speed-based trim: a preset running angle for each speed (Trim Command Curve).
- Coordinated turns: the heel angle is controlled through the turn.
- Better hole shot: the boat gets onto the plane faster.
Gyro and Ride together
A gyro stabilizer cuts roll at anchor and at low speed; Ride manages the boat's attitude underway. Models
Ride 450 (up to 26 ft), Ride 525 (27–30 ft), Ride 600 (31–36 ft), Ride 750 (37–42 ft) and Ride 900–1500 (43–55 ft), plus versions for catamarans and pontoons. Length, weight, hull form and typical cruising speed all count when choosing a model.
