Yacht and boat electrical service: frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions captains and owners ask us most often about yacht electrical, boat electrical and electronics work, our service area, quotes and invoicing.

Didn't find your answer?

These answers are general guidance; every boat's electrical system is different. For a clear assessment of your own boat, send us the boat name, the marina and photos of the fault through our contact page.

You'll find our full scope of work on the services page. If you are considering a lithium upgrade, our energy and battery systems page and our guide to switching to lithium batteries are good starting points. Getting ready for the season? See our season start checklist, and for the colder months our winterisation guide.

The brands we sell and service are listed on our authorised service page.

Yacht and boat electrical service: frequently asked questions

Which areas do you cover?

Our workshop is in Turgutreis and we cover the whole Bodrum peninsula: D-Marin Turgutreis, Yalıkavak Palmarina, Milta Bodrum Marina, Gümüşlük and the local boatyards. Jobs outside the peninsula are planned individually according to the boat, the scope of work and the dates.

Do you work on board in the marina?

Yes, most of our work is done on board. We come to the marina or boatyard with our test equipment, spares and tools. Jobs that need a workshop, such as circuit board repairs or watermaker testing, are completed at our Turgutreis workshop.

What should I do in an emergency?

Call or WhatsApp our mobile line on +90 541 663 39 81. Briefly tell us the boat name, the marina and the symptom. We schedule the job as soon as the season's workload allows and, if necessary, talk you through the first safety steps by phone.

What information should I send with a service request?

The boat name, make and model, the marina or boatyard, the make and model of the equipment concerned, when and under what conditions the fault started, and any error codes. Photos of the panel, the equipment labels and the affected area speed up the initial assessment considerably.

How do quotes work?

For straightforward jobs we give a preliminary quote based on the information and photos you send. Where the scope of a fault is unclear, we first diagnose it on board and then provide a written quote listing parts, labour and time separately. No work starts without your approval.

Can I switch from lead-acid or AGM batteries to lithium (LiFePO4)?

On most boats, yes, but replacing the batteries alone is not enough. We check the charger, alternator regulation, solar charge controller and BMS compatibility, and set charge voltages to roughly 14.2–14.4 V on a 12 V system. A DC-DC charger or external regulator is often needed to protect the alternator.

Do you work during the winter?

Yes, we work all year round. Winter is the best time for larger refit jobs such as switchboard renewals, rewiring, energy system upgrades and electronics updates. We also handle winterisation tasks such as battery care and watermaker membrane preservation.

Which brands do you work with?

We are a dealer or service partner for Besenzoni, Idromar and Tecnicomar, and we work regularly with Seakeeper, Zipwake, Victron Energy, C.E.M., Lopolight and Tecnoinox. We build and service our own Leo Mare watermaker systems.

Should I have an electrical check before the season?

We recommend it. Checking battery capacity, charge voltages, the shore power connection, leakage current, navigation lights, bilge pumps and navigation electronics before the season prevents most mid-season failures.

The RCD trips when I connect shore power. What could cause it?

Usually a damp socket or junction box, a faulty heater element, battery charger or air-conditioning unit; an incorrect neutral-to-earth connection is also common. We isolate circuits one by one and measure insulation resistance to find the source. Don't keep resetting it until the fault has been found.

Can you work on the boat while the owner is away?

Yes. We coordinate with the captain, the marina office or the yacht manager, obtain your approval before starting and keep you updated with photos during and after the job.

Which languages can we communicate in?

You can send us your request in writing in any of the languages on this website. Written messages and photos are the most reliable way to avoid misunderstandings on technical details; we will confirm which language we can use on board during our first contact.

How do payment and invoicing work?

An invoice is issued for all work. Payment terms, including any stage payments on larger jobs, are set out in advance in the written quote.

Do you supply the parts?

Usually, yes. We use genuine or manufacturer-approved spare parts and marine-grade cable, terminals and fuses. We can also install parts you supply after checking their compatibility.

What do we receive when the job is finished?

A system tested under load, a photo report of the work, the measured values and, where needed, an updated wiring diagram. New cables and fuses are labelled.

What about warranty?

The warranty on products follows the manufacturer's terms. Terms relating to our workmanship are stated in the written quote.

Do you also service gulets and catamarans?

Yes. As well as motor and sailing yachts, we work on switchboards, generators, batteries, lighting, hydraulics and watermakers on gulets and catamarans.

How do boat electrical needs differ between a motor yacht and a sailing yacht?

A motor yacht is defined by its generator, shore-power changeover, high AC loads and power-hungry equipment such as stabilizers; on a sailing yacht, energy autonomy comes first, with solar, alternator charging, battery capacity and autopilot consumption planned together. We plan boat electrical work around that difference.

Do you handle yacht electrical, electronics and mechanical work together?

Yes. Besides the boat electrical installation, we look after yacht electronics (chartplotters, radar, AIS, autopilot, NMEA 2000) and yacht mechanical systems (hydraulic passerelles, pumps, air conditioning, generators, watermakers) with the same team. Because a fault often sits where these systems meet, on motor and sailing yachts in Bodrum and Turgutreis we look at the whole energy chain together.

Problem on board?

Send us the boat name and marina and we'll get back to you the same day. On-site service in Turgutreis, Yalıkavak, Gümüşlük and the Bodrum marinas.
